Before a foreclosure is repossessed by the bank, there is a period of time (6-12 months) that the bank is required by law to allow the homeowner to sell their home or make their payments.
This period is called 'pre-foreclosure', and this is the time when the homeowners are very motivated (desperate) to sell their properties. Many of their situations are so stressful that homeowners are unable to take action to sell their homes - even though they know that their home and ALL the equity that they have built up over the years will be taken away from them by the bank.
